Orange granddad makes surprise discovery of $1.4 million Saturday Lotto win

An Orange granddad has made the surprise discovery that he holds one of the winning entries that netted a $1.4 million division one prize in last weekend’s Saturday Lotto $21 Million Superdraw.

Speaking to a NSW Lotteries official this morning to confirm his prize, the man confessed he had no idea he was the region’s mystery millionaire until he checked his entry yesterday evening.

“I didn’t know what to think when I saw it was the winning ticket,” he exclaimed.

“It’s very good! It’s lovely!”

The man explained he bought his winning Saturday Lotto entry using a small prize he had won in last week’s Powerball draw.

“I got $50 odd dollars from Powerball and it paid for two tickets, including this one, and I got change back!” he said.

Apart from sharing the win with his family, the man is happily contemplating how he’ll spend his $1.4 million windfall.

“There are a few things I’d like to do for myself!  Travel could definitely be on the cards too,” he said.

The winner, who wishes to remain anonymous, purchased their 36-game QuickPick entry from Nextra Orange, Shop 17, Orange City Centre, 227 Summer St, Orange.

Nextra Orange owner Paul Blunden said the outlet was thrilled to have sold a division one winning entry to a regular customer.

“It is amazing to think one of our customers is now a millionaire,” Mr Blunden said.

“We had been hoping it one was one of our regulars, and we are extremely excited that they have come forward to claim their prize and the mystery winner has been found!”

The six winning numbers in Saturday Lotto draw 3749 on Saturday 24 June 2017 were 29, 43, 5, 13, 32 and 1.  The supplementary numbers were 40 and 38.

Across Australia there were 15 division one winning entries in Saturday’s $21 Million Superdraw, with each taking home a division one prize of $1.4 million.  The winning entries included five from New South Wales, two from Queensland, two from Victoria, one from South Australia, two from the Northern Territory and three from Western Australia.

The Lott’s division one winning tally has now reached 405 so far this financial year, including 114 won by NSW Lotteries customers.
