Melbourne man bags $10,000 Instant Scratch-Its win while grocery shopping

A Melbourne professional man in his 40s has bagged more than bread and milk while grocery shopping, coming home with one of the $10,000 top prizes on a $1 Instant Scratch-Its.

The man’s winning ticket was bought from Seraglio Lotto, Kiosk 3, South Melbourne Central, 111 Cecil Street, South Melbourne.

He explained he bought the Instant Scratch-Its while shopping for groceries, but had initially refused to believe his $10,000 windfall was real until it had been officially confirmed.

“You never really expect to win much with a $1 Instant Scratch-Its. You don’t think you can win any more than $5, but that’s not true,” he said with a laugh.

“I was at home when I scratched it and I thought the prize was only $10. On closer inspection, it looked like $10,000, but I thought it must be a mistake.

“I tried to contain my excitement in case the ticket had expired or there was some other issue. I was more cautionary than celebratory.

“But I went into Tatts office on Collins Street and it was an amazing feeling when it was confirmed!”

The delighted winner explained he had been a regular Instant Scratch-Its player since he was in university two decades ago. Apart from paying off some debts, the man plans to share his instant $10,000 windfall with his family.

“I also want to take my family out to a nice dinner! It will be great to treat them with something like that,” he said.

The happy man, who wishes to remain anonymous, purchased his top prize winning $1 Instant Scratch-Its ticket at Seraglio Lotto, Kiosk 3, South Melbourne Central, 111 Cecil Street, South Melbourne.

The latest range of Instant Scratch-Its tickets are available now at Tatts outlets. It can happen in an instant. It could happen to you.
