24 hours on: Cairns winner yet to claim $40 million Oz Lotto windfall

More than 24 hours after a Cairns entry won the entire $40 million Oz Lotto jackpot, Golden Casket officials are eagerly waiting for the ticketholder to come forward and claim their prize.
The entry was the only division one winning entry in Oz Lotto draw 1215 on Tuesday 30 May 2017.  Tuesday night’s Oz Lotto draw 1215 offered a $40 million jackpot – the third highest Australian lottery jackpot of the year.
Golden Casket is urging all Cairns residents and visitors who purchased a ticket in Tuesday night’s Oz Lotto draw to check their tickets.
The entry was purchased at newsXpress Cairns Central, Shop 126, Cairns Shopping Centre, McLeod Street, Cairns.  The outlet has previously sold three division one winning entries, including a $1.05 million Saturday Gold Lotto winning entry in 2012 that remained unclaimed for 10 days.
Golden Casket spokesperson Matt Hart said he was eagerly waiting for Australia’s newest multi-millionaire to make contact and start the prize claim process.
“There are 40 million reasons why all Cairns players who had an entry in Tuesday night’s draw should check their ticket immediately,” he said.
“We can’t wait to confirm the humongous prize with our mystery winner!  Just imagine how $40 million might change your life and the lives of your nearest and dearest.
“If you discover you’re holding the division one winning entry, hold on tight to that ticket and phone 131 868 as soon as possible so that we can start the prize claim process!”
newsXpress Cairns Central sold the entry that won Tuesday night’s Oz Lotto draw.  It has previously division one Saturday Gold Lotto winning entries in 2008, 2009 and 2012.
newsXpress Cairns Central staff member Marc Raleigh said the outlet was celebrating selling Australia’s only division one winning ticket for Tuesday’s $40 million Oz Lotto draw.
“It feels amazing to have sold the winning ticket!” he exclaimed.
“There’s been a lot of people coming in hoping they’re the winner.  There’s been a lot of excitement and anticipation.
“I’ve been working here a while and I’ve been looking at our wall hoping to add another division one plaque to the wall – the last one we sold was in 2012!”
Six division one lotto wins in Cairns region so far this year!
Mr Hart said Tuesday night’s $40 million Oz Lotto windfall also cemented the Cairns region’s reputation as a lotto hotspot.
“So far this calendar year, there have been six division one wins in Cairns and the surrounding region – that’s more than one a month.  This includes three Monday and Wednesday Gold Lotto wins, two Oz Lotto wins and a Super 66 win,” he said.
“In total, more than $58 million in lotto division one prizes have landed in the region since January.
“Interestingly, the region also has form with big Oz Lotto wins.  In February, a Mareeba farmer in his 50s won $15 million in Oz Lotto and planned to help his family, buy a new house, go on a cruise and buy his dream ute!”
Another unclaimed division one lotto win in Cairns
Cairns is also home to another unclaimed division one lotto prize.  An entry bought at NewsExtra DFO Cairns, shop 255, DFO Cairns, 274 Mulgrave Road, Cairns, won $2 million in Monday & Wednesday Gold Lotto draw 3315 on 22 January 2014.
Golden Casket reminds players of the importance of registering their tickets to a Winners Circle Card so all of their prizes are secure and they can be contacted directly with the good news of a big win.
The winning numbers in Oz Lotto’s $40 million draw 1215 on Tuesday 30 May 2017 were 1, 35, 31, 19, 4, 13 and 26. The supplementary numbers were 25 and 37.
After five weeks of jackpotting the Oz Lotto prize reached $40 million for Tuesday night’s draw and will offer a $2 million division one prize next Tuesday.
Tuesday night’s winner takes the Lott’s division one tally to 376 so far this financial year, including 94 won by Golden Casket customers.
