Uncovered in time for Mother's Day: Queensland's Instant Scratch-Its hotspots!

Caloundra, Toowoomba and suburbs in Brisbane and Ipswich have proven to be Queensland’s Instant Scratch-Its top prize hotspots during the past 12 months, new research shows.

Released just in time for Mother’s Day – one of the top three times of the year when Queenslanders buy and scratch Instant Scratch-Its – the research shows that during the past 12 months, 49 Queenslanders have scratched top prizes on their Instant Scratch-Its to win a collective $5.486 million.

These winners join hundreds of other Queenslanders who’ve won minor other prizes on their Instant Scratch-Its.

The latest study into hotspots found one Queensland postcode has sold more top prize winning Instant Scratch-Its than any other during the past 12 months – 4551 for Caloundra and Currimundi.

This one post code has sold six top prize winning Instant Scratch-Its, delivering total prizes of $350,000, including one of four $5 Live the Life Black ticket top prizes which delivers $260,000 over 5 years in weekly instalments of $1,000.

The Brisbane postcodes of 4000 for Brisbane, 4014 for Banyo, and 4152 for Camp Hill and Carina, along with the Ipswich postcode 4300 for Goodna and Camira, and Moreton Region postcode of 4509 for Mango Hill have each sold two top prize winning Instant Scratch-Its. (see Table 1)

However, the state’s biggest single prize of $650,000 on a $10 Live the Life Gold ticket, delivered as $2,500 a week for five years, has been won twice during the past year from tickets sold in Redcliffe and Gordonvale.

Meanwhile, proving lightning can strike twice, Banyo Newsagency, 276 St Vincents Road, Banyo, has sold two top prize winning Instant Scratch-Its during the past 12 months.

Instant Scratch-Its spokesperson Matt Hart said Queenslanders had been winning Instant Scratch-Its top prizes at a rate of almost one a week.

With Mother’s Day one of the top three times of the year for Instant Scratch-Its scratching, he said he hoped some Queensland mums would join the top prize winners club this weekend.

“Instant Scratch-Its are different from other lottery games in that all prizes are pre-determined at the time of printing.  However looking at the research, it’s clear that Queensland hasn’t been a stranger to big Instant Scratch-Its wins,” he said.

“From Cairns to Coolangatta, Queenslanders have scratched themselves top prizes of more than $5.486 million during the past year.  This doesn’t include the other small prizes Queenslanders have also won.

“Just last month, a hardworking Cairns dad told us he nearly had a heart attack when he scratched his $10 Live the Life ticket and won $2,500 a week for the next five years.  The happy winner confessed he had too many plans to list when it came to spending his windfall.”

It can happen in an instant. It could happen to you.
