Ryde mum scratches herself $10,000 prize for Mother's Day!

A working mum from Ryde has been left dumbfounded after scratching a $10,000 top prize on an Instant Scratch-Its ticket she had bought for herself for Mother’s Day.

The happy woman refused to believe the win was real until NSW Lotteries officially confirmed she had won one of the top prizes on a $1.10 Instant Scratch-Its ticket.

The winner explained she bought the winning Instant Scratch-Its ticket using the prize money from another Instant Scratch-Its win.

“I had a $2 win on another ticket I bought.  So when I went to my local newsagent to buy a Mother’s Day card I saw it sticking out of my wallet and thought I must cash this in,” she said.

“So I got two $1.10 Instant Scratch-Its and put them in my wallet to pull out on Mother’s Day to scratch.

“I was out to breakfast with my family on Mother’s Day and pulled the tickets out and was scratching away.  I scratched it and had to put my glasses on!

“My children said ‘Oh my God Mum, you’ve just won $10,000!’.  But I said ‘no, that’s not right’.

“Everyone was looking at it saying it was true, but I thought it will be some kind of glitch so I wasn’t getting too excited until I could confirm everything!

“I’m a bit dumbfounded by it all!”

The winner admitted her family had had a tough time during recent weeks, so the win was a welcome gift.

While she has yet to decide what to do with the windfall, she plans to use it to treat her family in some way.

The winner, who wishes to remain anonymous, purchased the winning ticket from Putney Newsagency, 215 Morrison Road, Putney.

Putney Newsagency owner Harry He said was thrilled for his winning customer.

“It’s great to hear that one of our customers won the top prize!” he said.

“It’s been a while since we last sold a top prize winning Instant Scratch-Its ticket so hopefully this is the first of many to come!”
