Queensland's wannabe lotto winners want to go to the NRL Grand Final with Jonathon Thurston

With Gold Lotto’s $21 Million Superdraw on tomorrow night, Queensland’s wannabe winners have begun pondering their plans should they win a share of the $21 Million division one prize pool.

A recent survey of Queensland adults found almost a third (29.3%) want NRL star Jonathon Thurston as their celebrity friend, should they win a share of $21 million.

Reinforcing Thurston’s homestate appeal, he was Queenslanders’ top pick, but only the third favourite nationally.

Other popular potential celebrity friends for Queensland’s new millionaires would be Hugh Jackman (26.9%) and, on the back of her recent performances at the Gabba, Adele (21.4%).  (See Table 1)

When asked what luxury experience they’d like to have with their new celebrity friend after winning a share in Gold Lotto, more than a third of Queenslanders (37.3%) want to be VIPs at the NRL Grand Final.

Another quarter (24%) of Queenslanders want to go on a Great Barrier Reef scuba dive with their new celebrity mate.  (See Table 2)

The survey of 1,199 adults, conducted by ReachTEL, comes amid a surge of ticket sales ahead of tomorrow’s $21 million Saturday Gold Lotto Superdraw – the second of the year.

Golden Casket spokesperson Matt Hart said with the Superdraw only one day away, Queenslanders had already begun to dream about how their lives could change if they were one of the winners in tomorrow’s Gold Lotto Superdraw.

“Everyone has their own unique dream of how they would spend their Gold Lotto windfall, and more importantly, who’d they’d like to share it with,” he said.

“Many winners tell us they plan to pay off their mortgage, help family and friends, and go on a long-overdue holiday. But this survey also shows Queenslanders have a playful side and can picture themselves hanging out with celebs and experiencing the good life after a Gold Lotto win.”

Mr Hart said Golden Casket was preparing to make a slew of phone calls first thing Monday morning to officially notify this Saturday’s Superdraw registered division one Gold Lotto winners.

“Superdraws have become enormously popular with Queensland Gold Lotto customers and it’s anticipated that up to half the Queensland Adult population will purchase an entry into the $21 Million Superdraw on Saturday, with half of all tickets purchased on the day of the draw,” he said.

There were 15 division one winners nationally from February’s $20 million Superdraw, including five from Queensland.

Tickets in Saturday Gold Lotto’s $21 Million Superdraw on 25 March are now on sale from all Golden Casket outlets and online at thelott.com.
