Could you stomach it? Rocklea man surprises wife with $1.3 million Saturday Gold Lotto Superdraw win

A woman who thought her husband was taking her out to lunch, has instead been surprised by being taken to receive official confirmation of their $1.3 million win in Saturday Gold Lotto Superdraw.

The man, who bought his unregistered System 8 QuickPick from Rocklea Casket and News, had been planning the dramatic reveal ever since he discovered the win himself.

His ticket won divisions one, three and four, delivering a total prize of $1,348,053.74 in the weekend’s $20 million Superdraw.

“I had a bunch of Lotto tickets that I checked last night, just as I was about to go to bed,” he explained.

“I saw on this ticket I had the six winning numbers and I couldn’t believe it. I must have checked the ticket 20 or 30 times!

“It’s fair to say I had a pretty sleepless night! I kept checking the ticket in my wallet!”

But instead of telling his wife straight away, the man decided to surprise her with the news by taking her directly to Golden Casket headquarters for official confirmation.

“I thought we were going out to lunch! It’s unbelievable,” the woman said with tears in her eyes.

“We’ve driven past here and he’s always said ‘One day we’ll be in there’. And here we are!”

While the couple are regular players and had previously won smaller divisional prizes, the man said none compared to this windfall.

He said the couple had yet to decide what they would do with their winnings, but travelling around Australia was on the cards.

Rocklea Casket & News owner Thai Hong Ly congratulated the couple on their win.

“We knew we had sold a division one winning ticket, but it was unregistered so we hoped the ticket holder would realise they had won,” he said. “

We’ve had a lot of people come into the store to check their ticket or see if anyone had come forward yet.

“Having sold one winning ticket, I hope we can sell another to one of our customers.”
