21 new Brisbane multi-millionaires share in $55 million Powerball prize pool!

A workplace syndicate of 21 Queensland Government employees are celebrating the staggering news that their 50-game QuickPick entry in last night’s $55 million Powerball draw has scooped the entire jackpot prize pool!

The newly minted multi-millionaires will each pocket $2.6 million; an equal share of the $55 million division one prize pool!

The syndicate leader checked their entry at Casino News, 131 George Street, Brisbane this morning however wasn’t certain how much she and her colleagues had won, so she headed back to the office to manually check the ticket’s numbers online surrounded by some of her workmates and fellow syndicate members.

On seeing the winning numbers in one line of their 50 game QuickPick ticket the office exploded with a range of reactions! Some laughed, some cried and some were in utter disbelief.

The syndicate leader, a young woman, said she was prompted to set up the syndicate after seeing the big jackpot on offer.

“We were talking in the office yesterday about what we would do if we won and now it has happened – I just can’t believe it,” the syndicate leader cried as her phone continued to ring, buzz and beep with messages from her colleagues.

“Yesterday while we were talking about what we would do if we won, one of the syndicate members very boldly said that we were going to win and now we have!

“I don’t know what to say! I’m so shocked – it all seems so unreal! Wow – now I’ll be able to buy a house and get my teeth fixed – I’ll be able to afford braces!”

As the syndicate leader’s phone rang again she once again tried to convince a colleague it wasn’t a joke.

“I’m not kidding you! I sitting here looking at the ticket – we’ve each won $2.6 million!” she announced to her work buddy on the phone.

“Oh you can’t believe what this will mean to everyone! People’s ages range from 23 to 60 so it’s going to mean something different to everyone.

“For some they may retire, others will clear debts and pay off mortgages and others have told me they will help their family. I’m sure there will be a few holidays as well.”

As she shed more tears of joy the syndicate leader declared this wasn’t what she had anticipated her Friday would include. “

I just went to work this morning like normal and now this has happened – it’s just incredible – we’re multi-millionaires!” she declared.

“We’re all quite practical but we will be celebrating this win together!”

The winning syndicate of office workers, who wish to remain anonymous, won the entire $55 million jackpot prize with a 50-game QuickPick entry purchased at Casino News, 131 George Street, Brisbane.

Cindy Lynch is the manager of Casino News and was delighted to have sold the only winning entry in last night’s $55 million Powerball draw.

“Oh my god! I’ve just got goose bumps!” Ms Lynch shared when informed by Golden Casket of the news.

“I wish it was me but this is still so exciting!” she laughed.

“This is the third division one entry our store has sold but this is by far the biggest!

“And to have changed not one life, but 21 lives is just fantastic! I have goose bumps just thinking about it.

“I’m so thrilled to have been a part in this life-changing event! I wish the 21 winners all the best and hope they enjoy their windfall.”

Tatts Group Lotteries spokesperson Elissa Lewis said the $55 Powerball win is the second largest win on a single ticket in Queensland’s Powerball history!

The standing record for the largest Powerball win claimed by a single entry in Australia was set in January 2016 when one ticket purchased in Hervey Bay won $70 million in Powerball draw 1025.

“It’s great to discover the entry was shared between work mates, because today Queensland has 21 new multi-millionaires,” Ms Lewis said.

“The elation and disbelief of the newest Powerball winners is contagious and today is a day they will never forget!”

The numbers drawn tonight in Powerball draw 1077 on Thursday 5 January, 2017 were 36, 8, 23, 39, 31 and 6 and the Powerball was number 15.

Powerball will offer a $3 million division one prize in next week’s draw.
