Young Balwyn man scratches $75,000 Christmas surprise!

A man in his 30s from Melbourne’s eastern suburb of Balwyn received a $75,000 surprise in time for Christmas after an impulse Instant Scratch-Its ticket purchase.

The man was in great spirits after scoring one of three top prizes on a $5 Christmas Surprise Instant Scratch-Its ticket last month.

“I was at the local news outlet near my work and just randomly decided to buy a scratchie on that day with my TattsLotto ticket,” he explained.

“I’m really lazy, so I hadn’t even scratched the whole ticket when I asked the man to scan the barcode to see if I’d won anything.

“He said ‘It looks like you’ve won some money!’ so we took a closer look and I scratched off the rest of the ticket which revealed the $75 grand!

“It was very exciting! It was such a good feeling, it’s been really, really good!

“I didn’t think anyone won on scratchies, but they obviously do, don’t they!” he laughed.

The Balwyn man said his instant windfall couldn’t have come at a better time.

“It was actually perfect timing right before Christmas! I’d done all my Christmas shopping, but the win meant that I could clear all of my debts and get back on being on top and square again,” he said.

“I’m going to go on a little holiday as well to Vietnam, so it’s things like that I can do now which has been such a blessing.

“It makes for a great start to the year too! It’s been fantastic because I really needed it and it came at the right time. It worked out really well so I won’t be silly with it!”

The overjoyed man, who wishes to remain anonymous, purchased his top prize winning $5 Christmas Surprise Instant Scratch-Its ticket at St Kilda Road News, 509 St Kilda Road in Melbourne.

St Kilda Road News owner Stephen Read said he was excited to see a regular customer win the top prize.

While his store had sold several division one winning lotto tickets in the past, Mr Read said it was the first time he had sold a top prize winning Scratch-It.

“The winner had an interesting way of playing. He’d scratched a few squares but then asked me to scan the barcode for instant gratification,” he said.

“After he realised how much he’d won he was nervous about losing the ticket. You don’t want to have a ticket like that just lying around.

“I said he needed to go to the head office in Collins Street straight away, so he jumped in the car so he could claim his prize!

“I’m glad I could help as much as I could.”

The latest range of Instant Scratch-Its tickets are available now at Tatts outlets.
