Are you living in a lottery hotspot? NSW pockets most in 2016 Lotto prize money!

Australia’s 2016 Lotto hotspots have shown that NSW Lotteries players have pocketed more in division one prize money than anywhere else in the country!

During the past 12 months, between 1 December 2015 and 30 November 2016, New South Wales lottery players have enjoyed the spoils of more than $268.3 million in division one prize money which was shared by 117 winning ticket holders.

Whilst Victoria may have sold 39 more division one winning entries in 2016 with 156 won in the garden state, there’s no denying that sometimes quality is better than quantity – with New South Wales players scoring an extra $23.6 million in prize money than Victoria ($244.6 million in prize money).

As for the New South Wales postcodes that have produced the most division one winners in the past 12 months, metropolitan Sydney siders have been in luck.

Lottery players who purchased their tickets in the postcode of 2000 for the Sydney CBD have proved to be the most fortunate in 2016, topping the New South Wales hotspots list for having sold the most division one winning tickets in 2016.

The Sydney CBD sold six division one winning entries within the 12 month period totalling more than $35.8 million in division one prize money. $30 million of that prize money was won by one store-syndicate of 10 players in Powerball over Easter this year, who each won a share worth more than $3 million!

Hot on the CBD’s heels, selling five division one winning entries was the postcode 2486 for Tweed Heads South & Banora Point which scored more than $6.6 million in division one prize money. Three of those entries were sold from the very same outlet – Tweed City News!

In third place, was the postcode 2761 for Plumpton in the Great Western Sydney region which sold three division one winning entries totalling more than $3.7 million, all sold from Plumpton Marketplace Newsagency!

Casting the net a little wider if you take a look at New South Wales’ hotspot regions for 2016, it reveals that the Hunter & Central Coast region has claimed the top honours, with 21 division one prizes sold in the area in the past 12 months winning more than $27.7 million in division one prize money.

Not far behind was the Western Sydney & Blue Mountains with 18 wins totalling more than $19.3 million, followed by the Southern & South Western Sydney region with 17 wins totalling more than $53.2 million!

$40 million of New South Wales’ division one prize money was won by one ticket purchased from The Mall Newsagency in Campbelltown.

The runner up for the biggest prize in the state was a $30 million Oz Lotto prize that was won in February with an entry purchased online.

NSW Lotteries spokesperson Elissa Lewis said that the past 12 months had proven to be another winning year for lottery players around the state with many memorable tales of winners from 2016.

“Reflecting back on the year, there’s certainly a number of division one winning stories from 2016 that have really resonated with people,” Ms Lewis explained.

“New South Wales Lotteries waited two long weeks to speak with a man from an idyllic coastal town in northern New South Wales finally logged on to his thelott.com account and realised he won $30 million in Oz Lotto in February.

“In May, a Grafton family won 1st Prize in Set for Life and said they would spend the next twenty years flicking through travel brochures to choose their next holiday destination.

“In July, a Parkes grandmother was bewildered by her Lucky Lotteries Super jackpot windfall of $8.8 million!

“A Sydney man in his 30s who is an avid skier planned to carve it up on the best slopes around the world after winning 1st Prize in Set for Life in August.

“Powerball lightning also struck in August with a $10 million prize won in New South Wales’ Bogan Shire! The winning woman was watching the draw on television when her numbers came up!”

Ms Lewis said that although New South Wales had more division one prize money than any other state in 2016, it does not mean that a ticket purchased in that state has more chance of winning a division one windfall than any other ticket. “

It’s exciting to reveal where the most lotto wins occur, but it’s important to remember that lottery games are entertaining games of chance and every number on your ticket has an equal chance of being drawn, no matter where you buy your ticket,” Ms Lewis said.

The highly anticipated release of Australia’s 2016 Lotto Hotspots comes as the countdown begins to the $31 Million NYE Megadraw on 31 December 2016! Imagine what you could add to your New Year’s Resolution List if you became a midnight millionaire!

NSW Lotteries is expecting a lot of interest in the $31 Million NYE Megadraw, so customers are advised to get in early and purchase their entry for the chance to start 2016 with a bang and a chance to share in the massive $31 million division one prize pool.

NSW Lotteries customers are encouraged to register their entries to a Players Club card. Not only does registration ensure their prize is secure, it also ensures they can be contacted directly with news of a division one win.
