Winners Profile


Four-year-olds have dominated this race winning 15/32 since 1983, with Dissident the most recent in 2014. Five-year-olds have won 10 times, while six-year-olds and older have saluted on seven occasions.

Geldings have won the lion's share (20/32), with the last being Foreteller in 2013.
Entires have saluted eight times and mares just four (Southern Speed the most recent in 2012).

Form


All bar two of the 32 winners since 1983 have come via group racing. Seven won their previous start, while another eight were placed.

18 had lead-ups in the Group 2 J.J. Liston, with Pompei Ruler (2006) the last to complete the Liston/Makybe Diva double.

Four winners have come through the Group 1 Memsie Stakes, with Dissident completing the Memsie/Makybe Diva double in 2014. Weekend Hussler did the same six years earlier.

11 favourites have saluted in the last 32 editions, with the most recent Dissident ($2.75) in 2014.

There have only been four odds-on favourites since 1983, with three successful. The one to bite the dust was the most recent - Lights Of Heaven ($1.90) in 2011.

General Facts


Formerly known as the Craiglee Stakes, the Makybe Diva is a $400,000 WFA contest over 1600m and has been a good guide to horses preparing for the Melbourne Cup. It has featured some of Australia's best gallopers.

It had its origins in 1948 and in the early years was contested over 2000m. Since 1965, it’s been a mile event.
 •  The race was elevated to Group 1 in 2013 when taken out by Foreteller.
