A Group 1 in its own right, Saturday's $500,000 UBET BTC Cup (1200m) will have a huge bearing on future markets for the Queensland Winter Racing Carnival sprint features, the $750,000 Doomben 10,000 (1350m) in just over a fortnight and the $2m Stradbroke Handicap, which this year will be held at Doomben over 1350m on June 6.

Of the final field of 16 in the BTC Cup, all bar Hot Snitzel are nominated for the 10,000, with that horse and Villa Verde  the only two not listed in the 111 nominations for the Stradbroke. This means the result on Saturday will have major ramifications for the pre-post markets on the time-honoured features.

Our Boy Malachi  is now a clear favourite ahead of  Srikandi  for Saturday and both have all been well-supported in early betting on the 10,000 and Straddy.

But Saturday's race boasts a juicy pot in its own right, with $320,000 prize money awaiting the winner, $100,000 for second and $50k for third. Talented three-year-olds Scissor Kick  and Bring Me The Maid  have their supporters, while Kiwi Sacred Star  can't be discounted.
