As the temperatures drop in the Sunshine State, the heat rises on the 2015 Queensland Winter Racing Carnival. It all kicks off on the Gold Coast with the running of the Group 2 Hollindale Stakes over 1800m.

12 months ago, quality mare Streama came off a fourth in the Group 1 Queen Of The Turf  (1600m) at Royal Randwick to win this event for the late Guy Walter. She followed it up with victory in the Group 1 Doomben Cup (2020m). In fact mares have won the last three Hollindale Stakes (Streama, Lights Of Heaven and Shez Sinsational). That said, some of star gallopers have saluted in this $358,000 feature - Shogun Lodge, Might And Power, Durbridge and Rough Habit just to name a few.

Sydney Autumn Carnival participants Silent Achiever , Arabian Gold , Hooked , Foreteller , Moriarty and Hawkspur , as well as emergencies Pornichet and Leebaz , are all well-fancied.

The nine race program also includes the Group 2 Victory Stakes (1200m) and four Group 3s - the Gold Coast Guineas (1200m), the Ken Russell Memorial Classic (1200m), the Chairman's Handicap (2200m) and the Gunsynd Classic (1800m). The three Listed Races are the Silk Stocking (1200m), the Gold Coast Bracelet (1200m) and the Prime Minister's Cup (1400m).

The winner of the Hollindale receives $250,000, on a day where almost $1.5m in prize money is up for grabs!
