Arguably these are the two best teams over the past month, with the Dragons winning four on the bounce and Brisbane riding a five-match winning run after dropping their first game of the year. Benji Marshall is winding back the clock for the Red V, throwing plenty of questions at the opposition. His battle with Brisbane No.7 Ben Hunt will be a beauty - the winner of this duel could go a long way to deciding who comes out on top. It's hard to back against the Dragons at Kogarah, but Brisbane are just playing too well at the moment.

Surely things can’t get any worse for Manly! The return of Jamie Lyon suggests things might be looking up for the Brookie boys . . . although a clash with the Dogs is hardly what you want if you’re occupying last spot on the ladder. That said, the depleted Dogs were average against the Dragons last weekend. They’re halves are not firing and they could be ripe for the plucking in this one . . . if only Manly weren’t going so badly!

1st Try Scorer - J. Roberts

Penrith’s much-vaunted depth is being put to the test at the moment. The season-ending knee injury to Jamal Idris has opened the door for another Jennings – youngest brother Robert – to make his NRL debut. He’s a mix of Michael’s speed and agility, and George’s strength . . . and Panthers insiders reckon he is going to be one hell of a player. His match-up with Titans speed demon – and intercept king – James Roberts shapes as a classic. Penrith were brave last week – and I reckon they can give the comp an almighty shake this year – but in the face of their mounting injury toll, and without Soward and Wallace, I’m on the Titans.

The Cowboys just keep getting better each week. Johnathan Thurston is in sublime form, Matt Scott is dominating up front and Lachlan Coote is improving each week – as is his combination with JT. But the real X-Factor for North Queensland at the moment is Jake Granville. Hooker has been a problem area for the Cows since Aaron Payne retired, but they may have finally found the answer in the electric Granville. The former Bronco still has a bit to learn but, boy, does he give them some spark from dummy half! Meanwhile, the Warriors are still a long way off their best . . . and the long trip to Townsville will be very tough for them.

Roosters 1-12

A trip to meet the Storm in Melbourne is the last thing you want to do if you’ve just dropped two games in a row. But that’s the Roosters’ punishment for a fortnight of missed opportunities. And, on top of injuries, the Chooks will also have to deal with the loss of their line-bending prop Sam Moa to suspension. But despite all that, I reckon the Chooks can bounce back in this one. Their performance last weekend would have been enough to win against most sides – and Melbourne were far from convincing against the Raiders.

Tigers v Raiders

Tigers

Value Bet

1st Try Scorer - J. Tedesco

#NRLTigersRaiders

Fox Sports 1 Logo

The Tigers return to their spiritual home for the first time this season . . . amid talk this could be the final year they play at Leichhardt. That’s sure to put a few more bums on seats – or feet on the hill, as is the way at Leichhardt. A packed house full of black-and-gold diehards is bad news for the Raiders, who haven’t won at this ground since 2002. Both sides are coming off disappointing losses in matches they could have won last weekend. I’m leaning towards the Tigers because of the Leichhardt factor.

Newcastle Knights Logo

Knights v Eels

Match Tips

Head-to-Head

Knights

Value Bet

Knights 13+

#NRLKnightsEels

Fox Sports 1 Logo

Newcastle have fallen in a bit of a hole after their blistering start to the year. But a home game against a Parra side that simply cannot travel should be just the thing to get them going in the right direction again. The Eels have lost seven in a row to the Knights, and have only managed 56 points in those matches. Combine that with the fact they have lost six on the trot away from Pirtek – and have been pretty average in a lot of those defeats – and it is all pointing towards a Newcastle win.

Rabbitohs

Value Bet

Rabbitohs 1-12

#NRLSharksRabbitohs

Fox Sports 1 Logo

The Sharks have enjoyed a resurgence over the past fortnight . . . but a clash with the defending champs – albeit with a weakened line-up – should bring them crashing back to earth with a thud. The Bunnies are desperately short on troops at the moment, with Glenn Stewart named to play five-eighth – the first time in his 13-year NRL career he will trot around with the No.6 on his back. But don’t be at all surprised if John Sutton is a late inclusion. Souths were poor last Monday, even allowing for their injury toll. Michael Maguire will have them revved-up for this one!
