On consecutive Saturday's in early April, Royal Randwick plays host to the Championships, two days of quality racing with prize money of almost $20m. The first of the big days is Easter Saturday, which boasts four Group 1 events - the Doncaster Mile (1600m), the Darley TJ Smith Stakes (1200m), the BMW Australian Derby (2400m) and the Inglis Sires' Produce (1400m). The program also features a Group 2 event and three Group 3s, with stakes across the eight races totaling almost $10m.

Established in 1860, Royal Randwick recently enjoyed a $170m redevelopment, which includes a five level grandstand and the 'Theatre of the Horse' outdoor tiered amphitheater for punters to get a close-up look at the runners.

The Championships only came to life last year. Sydney's social set certainly comes out to play, with black and white fashion the order of the day.
