North Queensland face Sydney on Saturday for the first time since the Tri-Colours knocked them out in last year’s finals series.

For the past three years, the Cowboys have come painfully close to claiming a maiden NRL Premiership . Last year, they were rubbed out by the 2013 Champions, the Sydney Roosters. While the end of the game finished in controversial fashion, which has seemed to be the norm for the Cowboys over the past few seasons, allowing 30 points in the first half was just not good enough to overcome a side like the Roosters. In a huge boost for North Queensland, inspirational skipper Johnathan Thurston has had his best preseason to date, having missed out on the Four Nations last year and the Auckland Nines in January. Coach Paul Green has named a very strong side, with new recruits Ben Hannant, Justin O’Neill and Jack Granville all being name in a 19-man squad.

It seems the Roosters haven't lost a step since claiming the NRL title two years ago. Last year, they were again the benchmark, claiming their second straight Minor Premiership and just missing out on making the Grand Final. The loss of skipper Anthony Minichiello and Sonny Bill Williams is sure to leave a huge hole in the Chooks' line up, but with Aiden Guerra and Boy Cordner finally getting a taste of rep footy last year, along with Roger Tuivasa-Sheck moving to his preferred fullback position, Roosters fans can still be confident heading into the 2015 season. Blake Ferguson makes his debut for the Tri-Colours after serving a 18-month suspension for off-field indiscretions, while young live wire Matt McIlwrick also makes his debut, filling in for the injured Jack Friend (shoulder).

With both teams bolstering an impressive roster, this one is sure to leave fans on the edge of their seats. Last year, the Cowboys won 12 of their 13 games at home, including a 32-point thumping of the Chooks in Round 10. JT is primed for a big year, and TattsBet customers are backing the future Immortal at long odds to score the First Try .
