The odds aren’t that great for the Mariners as they travel to AAMI Park to take on the class and might of second placed Melbourne Victory. The Victory boasts the best attack in the league and are aiming for their fourth successive win over the Mariners. The Mariners have scored in each of their past seven journeys to Melbourne but only taken the three points twice. Hard to go past the Victory with so much attack up front but with Mark Milligan away on international duty they could be vulnerable without his solid leadership in the middle of the pitch.

Brisbane’s season is at the cross roads following a mid week trouncing by the youthful Wanderers squad. Despite a depleted line-up the effort and defensive frailties of last year’s Champions hasn’t been seen at Suncorp Stadium since Perth Glory did the same to them back in September of season 2009-10 (4-2). This is must-win territory for the Roar who sit five points adrift of the top six. Hard to favour an out of form Roar defeating a City team victorious from three of their last four against them. The draw is highly unlikely given the last eight meetings haven’t seen the points shared.

After spending a majority of this season at the top of the A-League ladder the Glory have collected the three points in just one of their 10 games. They share 37 points with the Victory and Sydney FC, but could well be their lack of goal scoring mojo that could ultimately decide their fate in the top two as the finals fast approach. The Wanderers are without Matthew Spiranovic and Tomi Juric and should take plenty of confidence knowing they have never failed to score against the Glory in seven previous matches. The Glory are yet to win at home this year despite recoding eight straight wins that ended on Boxing Day.

This will be the match of the round with arguably the two form teams of the competition. Wellington Phoenix could be considered lucky following their 73’ win against the Roar, but their football has been clinical, attacking and filled with enormous self-belief from the top down. Their away stats speak for themselves, any many football neutrals are secretly gunning for them to win the premiership or even lift the Champions trophy. Their record at home against the ‘Sky Blues’ is impressive having won six of their last seven, but Sydney shouldn’t be discounted given they are the only side yet to taste defeat away from home this season (W6 D4).

The last time these two sides met in late January in was Adelaide who dealt the Jets their biggest defeat in their A-League history. Despite that alarming result the Jets have lost only one of the past six games hosting the Reds at Hunter Stadium and their only home win this season was against them. Bruce Djite or Marcelo Carrusca are worth considering in the ‘First Goal Scorer’ market given they put on a great show in that memorable 7-0 defeat. Difficult to discount Adelaide if they play to their best.
