The Hurricanes have had a cracking start to the year and remain undefeated, while the Rebels have shown plenty of promise, but have come unstuck on occasion like last week against the Lions. This will be a tougher task for the Rebels away from home, so I expect the Canes to continue their winning ways.

With the Reds welcoming back half a dozen injured stars, the pressure to win will be immense, especially after their very poor start to the season. The Lions have been erratic over recent weeks, but will be buoyed by their last start victory in Melbourne. As long as the Reds don’t allow the Lions to build momentum and confidence, they should have the side to win this game well. I expect Cooper and O’Connor to star for the home side.

This is a rare occasion when a NZ team travels back from South Africa to play an African team which has been on tour in NZ. The Chiefs tend to manage their travel and recovery well, and with the quality of their side, I expect they will be able to deliver another high performance match, as long as they get their set piece play right (they didn’t cover their red carded No 2 last week when he was sent off).

#HIGvSTO

This will be a hard fought match between the Highlanders, who give 100% every week, coming up against a Stormers side very capable of an upset in NZ after a bye week. While they will be well rested, the week off might just have slowed the momentum of the in-form Stormers. I am leaning towards to home side here, but it could swing either way and will be a cracking match.

Blues +12.5

Controversy surrounded the Tahs' impressive win last week against the Brumbies, so coach Michael Cheika will be aiming to get their minds back on playing football. The Blues always put up a good fight and are not too far from their first win of the year, despite languishing in last place on the ladder. While the men from Auckland will be motivated to break their season duck, I cannot see it being this week against the Tahs, who should be capable of performing well again.

Match Tips

Head-to-Head

Sharks

Dozen Start

Force +12.5

#SHAvFOR

We felt the Force would put up a good effort last week and they certainly weren’t disappointing coming close to pulling off the upset of the round. The difficultly will be whether they can replicate that effort again this week. The Sharks were immense in winning with 13 men against the Chiefs, but are without the suspended Du Plessis, which is a huge loss. They should also be without Steyn, who should've been suspended as well, but somehow he got off (still shaking my head about that decision). The biggest risk to the Sharks is themselves, as they tend to lift well against the better teams and become complacent against the lesser sides.

Match Tips

Head-to-Head

Crusaders

Margin

Crusaders 1-12

#BULvCRU

This will be a physical battle and the Bulls are certainly never easy to beat at home. However, with the Crusaders hitting peak form of late, and having an abundance of class and star players, I feel they will be too clever for the heavyweights from Africa.
