Winners Profile

The last three Blue Diamond winners were fillies (Earthquake, Miracles Of Life & Samaready).

Over the last 32 editions, the boys (15 colts and 3 geldings) lead the girls 18-14.

Only three geldings have been successful in the last three decades – Kusi (2003), Road To Success (2000) & Paint (1996).

The last five Blue Diamond winners all saluted in their lead up runs.

Fourteen of the last 32 winners came through the Blue Diamond Preludes (7 in the Colts & Geldings Division and 7 in the Fillies Division).

11 favourites have saluted in the last 32 years, including the last four

The last odds-on favourite to get rolled was the David Hayes trained Raise A Rhythm ($1.90) which finished fourth to stable mate Canonise in 1991.

Outsiders have a pretty good strike rate in this event with 11 winners in the past three decades starting at double figure odds or better. The latest double figure odds winner was Star Witness ($10) in 2010.
The biggest roughie in recent history was Street Café which started at $41 in 1984, while Undoubtedly (2005) and Mahaasin (1990) were $26.

23 of the past 32 winners have jumped from a single figure gate.

Barriers 4 & 5 have the best strike rate with four winners a piece.

Of the 27 editions boasting 11 or more runners, no horse has won from barrier 11.

The last horse to win from the inside barrier was Miracles Of Life (2013).

The last winner to jump from the outside barrier was Redoute’s Choice (15/15) in 1999. However, Earthquake (15/16), Star Witness (14/15) Nadeem (12/13), Knowledge (15/15), Let’s Get Physical (13/16) and Street Café (17/18) all overcame wide draws.

Of the current jockeys, Dwayne Dunn has the best strike rate (8: 4-0-2), with all four winners notched consecutively between 2005 and 2008 (Undoubtedly, Nadeem, Sleek Chassis & Reaan).

Kerrin McEvoy 7: 2-1-0, Damien Oliver 16: 1-5-2, Luke Nolen 6: 1-1-1, Damien Browne 1/1, Craig Williams 10: 0-2-1, Steven Arnold 5: 0-1-1.

This has been a race David Hayes has really chased. From 41 runners, he’s had five winners, five seconds and three thirds.

Lee Freedman 19: 3-2-4, Peter Snowden 10: 2-0-0, Mick Price 10: 1-2-2, Peter Moody 8: 1-2-0, Mike Moroney 1/1
  Gai Waterhouse 8: 0-2-1, Tony McEvoy 7: 0-1-0.
