Chelsea host Everton on Thursday morning (AEST) looking to extend their lead at the top of the EPL table.

With Manchester City dropping points at home to Hull on the weekend, Chelsea had the chance to go seven points clear at the top with a win over Aston Villa. Goals from Eden Hazard and Branislav Ivanovic secured a 2-1 win for Jose Mourinho’s men on Sunday morning, and as we get deeper and deeper into the season, it seems more and more likely the title will be heading back to London. Besides a minor dip in form over the Christmas-New Year period, the Blues have been the most consistent side this campaign and have now firmed into in the outrights market. Spanish striker Diego Costa scored twice when these sides met back in round three, but he remains unavailable as he serves the final game of a three-match ban for violent conduct.

The Toffees’ scoring struggles continued on the weekend, drawing yet another blank in 0-0 stalemate against city rivals Liverpool. Despite minimal changes to their squad in the off-season, Everton have failed to reach the lofty standards they set last season. The Merseysiders finished fifth in the 2013-14 campaign, however they’ve played like a typical mid-table side this season and their 12th spot on the ladder is fully justified. Roberto Martinez was busy in the January transfer window looking to bolster his squad with 14 matches remaining, and the Spaniard managed to pick up speedy left-midfielder Aaron Lennon on loan from Tottenham.

With just one win in their past eight league matches, the bookies have given Everton a big price. We’ve come to expect short prices when Chelsea play, especially at home, and this match is no exception.
