Liverpool welcome Tottenham to Anfield on Wednesday morning (AEST) in a crucial match-up between two top-four candidates.

After last weekend’s Merseyside Derby failed to yield any goals , Liverpool will be desperate to find their scoring touch again. Brendan Rogers’ men find themselves in seventh trailing fifth-spot Tottenham by four points, and three points against their fellow top-four contenders could prove to be defining come May. Daniel Sturridge made a scoring return two matches ago against West Ham, and he will be Liverpool’s ‘go-to’ man once again. The 25-year-old netted 21 times in 29 games last season, and he’ll be eager to continue his return from injury with another goal.

Like their opponents, Tottenham were involved in a derby of their own on the weekend – one their fans won’t be forgetting anytime soon. After going down 1-0 to Arsenal early on, Spurs fought back to record a 2-1 victory, and it was all thanks to one man. Harry Kane grew up as a die-hard Spurs fan, and the script couldn’t have been written any better after netting both goals in front of an exuberant crowd at White Hart Lane. The brace brought the 21-year-old’s goal tally to 12 this season, with only Diego Costa, Sergio Aguero and Charlie Austin more prolific in front of goal.

Undefeated in their past eight matches, Liverpool enter this match as commanding favourites. The Reds will need to be at their best to breakdown Spurs, however, who have won their past three lead-up matches. One thing to expect from this match is plenty of goals, with the previous four games producing 17 goals.
