Melbourne Stars host the Sydney Sixers on Monday night as the Big Bash League begins to heat up.

After losing their opening three matches, serious questions were aimed at the Stars who went into the competition as favourites. However last time out, they finally showed what they were capable of, thrashing the Renegades in the Melbourne derby by 112 runs. Openers Cameron Wight and Luke Wright got the Stars off to a solid start when they combined for 61 runs, but it was with the ball where Greg Shipperd’s men did the damage. All ten of the Renegades’ batsmen were dismissed for 10 or less, managing a total of just 57; the lowest in Big Bash League history. Jackson Bird took two wickets in his three over spell that match, and he’s on the second line of betting at to take the most wickets on Monday.

In contrast to their opponents, the Sixers ended their perfect start to the season last time out. Despite losing to the Scorchers in Perth last Monday, the Sydney side remain in second and pose as a genuine threat, even more so when you consider the absentee list of players currently on test duty. With Steve Smith, Brad Haddin and Nathan Lyon still yet to wear the bright pink this summer, it looks as though they will only get better in the business end of the competition. Like the Stars, the Sixers remain a   chance in title betting, but that will more than likely change after tonight’s clash.

Despite winning just one of four matches this season, the Stars are dominant favourites in the betting ring. Although the hosts’ price is short, punters still see the value in taking it, with one big bet of $4000 coming in at the $1.63 quote.
