The Tasmanian Summer Racing Carnival continues to build towards the two big staying cups, with the running of the Stakes in Launceston on Wednesday night.

The event is an Open WFA contest over 1200m, with $100,000 in prize money. One of the leading hopes to take out the Listed Race is Grand Tycoon .

A four-year-old son of Written Tycoon, Grand Tycoon has won 11 of his 16 starts, with three other placings. He's amassed over $295,000 in stakes and is coming off a second behind Innocent Gamble. Trained by Barry Campbell at Spreyton, Grand Tycoon loves Launceston having won four from five here and two from two at the track and distance.

His biggest danger looms as Hellova Street , from the stables of David and Scott Brunton. The four-year-old son of Helike has never missed a place in 12 outings, with his six wins and just as many minors netting connections $151,275 in prize money thus far. Hellova Street is coming off a third, 1.8 lengths behind Grand Tycoon, but meets him 3.5kg better at the weights. He's had five goes at this circuit for three wins and two minors, while enjoying two wins and a second from three starts at the track and distance.

The other feature race is the Thousand Guineas - a 1600m event for fillies.
