World Number 1 Rory McIlroy leads the charge for Europe when it takes on the USA in Scotland in the 40th Ryder Cup.

Since its inception in 1927, the Ryder Cup has been one of the premier golfing events. Every two years, the best golfers from Europe go head-to-head with the best golfers from the United States for the coveted Cup. After the ‘Miracle at Medinah’ two years ago, the Europeans have a stranglehold on the competition, looking to make it three consecutive victories. The 2014 team features the best golfers from across Europe, including Sergio Garcia, Justin Rose and Ian Poulter. After his stellar year, which includes wins at the Open Championship and the PGA Championship, McIlroy leads the betting market for Top Combined Points Scorer.

Never to be outdone, USA has assembled some quality golfers as well. The 2014 Masters Champion Bubba Watson and the World Number 4 Jim Furyk lead the United States into battle on Thursday, with Furyk looking to secure his third Ryder Cup victory. A team that features Hall of Famer Phil Mickelson can never be written off, considering he was only just beaten by World Number 1 Rory McIlroy at the PGA Championships. After finishing second at both the US Open and the Open Championships, Rickie Fowler leads the Americans as the Top Points Scorer.

Even though they are looking down the barrel of a third successive defeat, the American team has been well-supported with TattsBet. However, one confident punter has bucked the trend, placing $7,500 on Europe to make it seven wins from the last nine editions of the Ryder Cup.
