The Golden Rose is a Group 1 event at set weights for three-year-olds over 1400m at Rosehill Gardens on September 13. It boasts a purse of $1m and is a highlight of the New South Wales spring calendar.

Contenders are back in work, and a number of hopefuls will begin their campaigns in the Rosebud - a Listed Quality Handicap over 1200m at Randwick this Saturday. There are eight runners, with six of them last start winners.

The spruik horse is Sarajevo , who was ultra impressive winning his only start. The colt from the Godolphin stable was hampered soon after jumping at his debut run on Easter Monday and settled last. However, the son of Lonhro moved to the middle of the Kensington track and unleashed a powerful finish to beat his nine rivals by 1.3 lengths as a $2.10 favourite. The youngster trialled well before that winning debut, and has again been impressive in his lead-up work ahead of Saturday's mission, for which he's drawn barrier three.

John O'Shea's potential star is giving away race fitness to Scissor Kick , Echo Prince  and Inkling , who are all coming off last start wins, having already commenced their current campaigns.

A last start flop in the Blue Diamond, Gai Waterhouse's filly Nayeli  looked good winning both her recent trials, while Peter Moody saddles up Better Land  - a colt who won his only start on a heavy track at Sale in early April before wintering in Brisbane.

Earthquake is the favourite for Golden Rose , ahead of her Golden Slipper conqueror Mossfun  and Gai Waterhouse's exciting youngster Almalad .
