Even though the head-to-head market doesn't indicate it, this should be an interesting battle between two sides who posted stellar wins last week. Despite the ongoing ASADA saga, the Bombers  punished cold Pies, with Jake Carlisle kicking four goals.  The Bulldogs were impressive themselves, beating the Gold Coast in Cairns by 28 points. They were well-served by young pups Jack Macrae, Marcus Bontempelli and Nathan Hrovat, which is a great sign for the future.

Since a one-point loss to the 16th-placed Demons in Round 13, the battling Bombers have gone 3-1 against the more fancied Adelaide, Geelong, Port Adelaide and Collingwood. Their only loss in the last month was to the Cats by nine points. Mark Thompson's men have subsequently jumped from 10th to 7th on the ladder. Cairns product Courtenay Dempsey will play his 100th game for the Bombers, who are likely to have veteran Brendon Goddard back, and possibly Michael Hibberd. They've won five on the trot against the Bulldogs, including the Round 7 clash earlier this year by eight points. Ironically, the handful of victories have all been at Etihad Stadium.

While the stats aren't a great read for Bulldogs fans, coach Brendan McCartney and his charges will take great heart from bringing down the Ablett-less Suns in North Queensland and the fact that this week's opposition haven't won three in a row in 2014. The Dogs have added skipper Ryan Griffen to last week's winning list.

Essendon's mission from here on in is simple - cement their place in the eight. Other than the Swans next week, the Bombers face teams below them on the table in the run to the finals, and those matches, along with this one, are must-wins.  This Bomber is tipping desperate Bombers to cover the line this week!
