The Gold Coast  will have their work cut out this week when red hot Swans squad make the trip to Metricon Stadium.

It may be too early to call, but last week’s loss to Adelaide could be the beginning of the end for the Gold Coast Suns. After recording a number of impressive performances against bottom sides, Gary Ablett and co face a string of hard matches in the coming weeks including Geelong, Hawthorn and Collingwood. The toughest task could come this weekend against the Swans, who are looking to stretch their unbeaten run to seven matches. The Suns lacked firepower against the Crows, but are expected to gain some back on Sunday with talented half-forward Harley Bennell a likely inclusion in the line-up after overcoming a corked calf.

The Swans recorded their biggest ever win over the Cats last Thursday night, embarrassing Chris Scott’s side by 110 points. The partnership between Kurt Tippet and Buddy Franklin sparked fear in their opponents and bookies responded to last week’s devastating display by making them favourites to take out this year’s flag. There are a host of reserve team players pushing and pushing week in week out for an AFL call up, but with the first team firing on all cylinders, it’s hard to see coach John Longmire making any changes to the squad. A win over the Suns will be cause for further celebration for Heath Grundy, who takes the field in the AFL for the 150th time.

If both sides replicate their form from last week, things could get ugly on the Gold Coast. To be fair, the Sun’s start to the season sparked a lot of excitement in the camp for good reason. But this week, Sydney should really run all over them. Longmire’s men are playing like a Premiership winning side and there’s no doubt they are working towards knocking Port off the top of the table.
