It’s the premier racing day of the Queensland Carnival. The BRC’s ‘jewel in the crown’ is Stradbroke Day at Eagle Farm. There are three Group 1s, including the AAMI Stradbroke Handicap (1400m), which dates back to 1890. The other majors are the Queensland Derby (2400m) and the J.J. Atkins (1600m). At Group 2 level, there’s the Brisbane Cup (2400m) and Dane Ripper (1400m), while the Daybreak Lover (1600m), the Lightning (1000m), the Strawberry Road (1600m) and the Hampden Stakes (1200m) are all Listed events.

In all, there are nine quality races, with in excess of $3.4m in prizemoney on offer. TattsBet has a carryover jackpot of $500,000 for the Brisbane Quadrella and the pool is expected to pass $1.5m.

This is great news for savvy punters searching for value in giant pools!

Last year, the Quaddie on Stradbroke Day paid $2,952, despite the fact that two sub-favourites saluted, as well as a second favourite. In 2013, Romantic Touch (fav) defeated Zoustar in the J.J. Atkins, favourite Hawkspur was successful in the Derby and Moriarty (2nd fav) won the Brisbane Cup. Grand old campaigner Linton added value to the Quaddie winning the Stradbroke paying $31.50. That day, the jackpot was $200,000 and the pool reached $1.15m.

In 2012, punters were again on the mark in three of the four races, with another longshot taking out the Straddy. Sizzling won the J.J. Atkins at $1.70, Brambles scored in the Derby as $3.50 favourite and Lights Of Heaven was the punters second elect at $3.60 taking out the Brisbane Cup. Mid Summer Music’s success in the Stradbroke at $28.90 the win certainly added value. From a carryover of $288,834, the Quadrella pool ballooned to $1.33m that day and the dividend was $1,274 – not bad considering how short priced three of the winners were in the betting.

Three years ago, three second favourites won legs of the Quaddie, including Sincero ($7.20) in the Stradbroke. Torio’s Quest took out the final leg, a wide open Queensland Guineas, where it was $6.50 the field. He paid $11 the win, the Quaddie was a handy $2,295.60 and not all that hard to get!

The TattsBet Racing Editor has studied the form and has come up this this Quadrella.

Race 6 - The three leading hopes are Brazen Beau, Almalad and Pressing (1,3,6)

Race 7 - Wide open Derby and you need to include Amexed, Vilanova, Pinstripe Lane, Elusive Runner, Rock Diva & Telepathic (Rudy & Sonntag knock-out chances) (1,2,4,11,16,17)

Race 8 - Many hopes in the 2014 Stradbroke, but must includes are Rebel Dane, Knoydart and Srikandi despite awkward barriers, don't leave out Red Tracer or Smokin' Joey, while I reckon the weight and a tough 1400m might be too much for Spirit Of Boom and it's hard to have Hucklebuck second up (2,10,17,4,6)

Race 9 - Handy field for Brisbane Cup, but Moriarty, Precedence and Zephyron are the main chances - if it's wet, Mr O'Ceirin and Zennista should be added (1,2,5)
