With defending Wimbledon champion, Marion Bartoli, now retired it comes as little surprise to see Serena Williams is a firm favourite to win her sixth singles crown at the All England Championships.

The 32-year-old breezed past Georgian-born American, Anna Tatishvili, 6-1, 6-2 in the first-round.

Though a little rusty at her first appearance on grass, Williams only other issue came with keeping her feet firmly on the court. "I fell so many times during the match, which was weird but it was probably just a case of getting my bearings. I didn't play much grass-court tennis last year. I think I'll be okay, " said Williams after advancing to the second round where she'll meet either fellow American Christina McHale or South African Chanelle Scheepers. A real positive for Williams and one of the reasons she's won the All England Championship five times is her booming serve. And in an ominous warning for rivals, Serena opened the tournament belting down 16 aces (which equates to four games).

A Wimbledon winner a decade ago, Maria Sharapova is a danger. However, she's on a 15 match losing streak against Williams. She too opened the tournament in style, beating local Samantha Murray 6-1 6-0 in a tick under an hour. Her next opponent is Switzerland's Timea Bacsinszky.
