Many predicted the Gold Coast Titans  would fall from grace, but no one could've believed it would be this hard. Leading the competition after Round 8, the wheels have fallen off, with the Titans slumping to five straight losses. The St George-Illawarra Dragons  aren’t doing much better, but they have found a winning combination with Benji Marshall and Josh Dugan on the right hand side.

Titans coach John Cartwright is lucky he doesn’t have much hair left. With the amount of bad luck the Titans have endured in the last month, he would be pulling it out. Injuries upon injuries continue to plague their season, with the most recent being fill-in halfback Beau Henry. The mid-season signing of Roosters utility Daniel Mortimer is a big boost for the Titans, if he can remain injury-free. All of the Titans Origin stars return, with Greg Bird starting the back row, and Nate Myles and Dave Taylor added to an extended bench. Brad Takairangi has been named at five-eighth, but will move aside if Mortimer is given the green light.

Even though the Dragons lost to the Panthers last week, they still look like they are improving. Their defence is leaps and bounds above what it was a month ago. When halves Marshall and Gareth Widdop run the ball, the Dragons look dangerous and momentum swings their way. But they don’t do enough of it. They continue to pass the ball too often, instead of taking on the line. If they can learn to watch the defenders feet and play on instinct, then they will test defences in more ways than one. NSW Origins stars Dugan and Trent Merrin return for the visitors, with Peter Mata'utia and Tyson Frizell (ankle) dropping out.

The return of the Origin stars for both sides, ensures there's plenty of class on show at the Coast. This is a huge clash with the two teams coming off losses and eager to find winning form.
