Brisbane Broncos v Gold Coast Titans
Suncorp Stadium
Friday May 16 – 7:45 PM (AEST)

Broncos: LLWLL
Titans: WWLWL

The Brisbane Broncos  are in yet another Queensland derby. Following their loss to little brother, North Queensland, last Friday, they come up against baby brother, the Gold Coast Titans, . The Titans themselves are also coming off a loss, getting pummelled by South Sydney last Saturday at home. But with both in very similar form, this one might just go down to the wire.

The Broncos are on the cusp on creating a winning formula. They just have to play for 80 minutes. They either peak too early or too late. They let the opposition get too far out in front and just can't quite haul them in. Or they get to a comfortable lead and take their foot off the pedal, losing the game in the dying seconds. It's heartbreak either way and must be frustrating for Broncos fans. Ben Hannant returns on the bench, with Jarrod Wallace replacing Martin Kennedy in the starting side. Todd Lowrie keeps his spot in the 17 with Jake Granville 18th man.

You can’t say the Titans didn’t give it their all last week. When South Sydney produces probably the best half of football by any team this year, it’s hard to gain any momentum. To put even three tries on them is a victory in itself. But they will miss enforcer Greg Bird. After a successful appeal, his suspension for a lifting tackle has been reduced to two weeks. He'll sit out this match and Origin 1. Luke Bailey starts at prop for Ryan James, Paul Carter replaces Matt Srama on the bench and Mark Minichiello is in the back row to cover for Bird. Matt White and Cody Nelson have been added to the bench, with Mark Ioane 18th man.

Both teams have been solid without being spectacular over the opening rounds. Given the results of recent weeks, a field goal may just settle this one.
