Bayern Munich host Real Madrid at the Allianz Arena on Wednesday morning (AEST) looking to overturn a 1-0 first leg deficit against the Spanish giants. Carlo Ancelotti’s men made the most of their home ground advantage last Thursday courtesy of a Karim Benzema strike.

Real Madrid head into this clash following a 4-0 La Liga win over Osasuna. Cristiano Ronaldo sent a warning to the German side with two blistering strikes in the weekend’s match, highlighting the current inspiring form he, and his team mates, are in. The combination of last year’s Ballon d’Or winner and summer signing Gareth Bale has produced an attack most teams have struggled to contain this season. Hitting their opponents on the counter attack with pace has been Real’s weapon this campaign, the same tactic that produced the solitary goal at the Bernabeau last week.

Bayern Munich know that if they are going to book a spot in the final, they must hit the back of the net at least twice. Pep Guardiola’s side failed to grab an away goal last week and more importantly conceded. They were the dominant team in that game, but failed to muster a goal. A 5-2 dismantling over Werder Bremen on the weekend will give them confidence in attack ahead of the second-leg, but the backline of Real will be a lot tougher to crack. The Spaniards are the in-form team right now, having lost only three of their past 42 matches in all competitions.

This fixture sees two of Europe’s most attacking teams go head-to-head in the German capital. With Real securing a goal to their name heading into the match, Bayern will be attacking from the first whistle. That will leave a gap in behind though for Ronaldo and co to exploit. Expect this match to produce goals, the underlying question will be how many and to whom? Madrid may park the bus, but it's unlikely to work in Munich against the defending champions.
