After a cracking Easter weekend that proved a treat for footy fans around the country, another long-weekend of footy awaits. Round six kicks off at the MCG on Friday afternoon with the traditional ANZAC day clash between Collingwood  and Essendon .

The Pies will be full of confidence heading into this clash coming off an impressive 35-point win over the Kangaroos. Collingwood’s midfield was inspiring in that game and surprisingly made light-work of North Melbourne in the centre of the park. Their backline were solid too, and look only to improve with key defender Nathan Brown likely to make his return from injury. Coach Nathan Buckley will have a tough call to make when Brown if back into the side, defensive duo Jack Frost and Lachlan Keefe both produced worthy performances at the back on Saturday.

The Bombers will be looking to bounce back from consecutive defeats, the latest a shock home loss at the hands of St Kilda. Brendan Goddard is expected to return to the Bomber’s forward line after a calf-injury in the warm-up before the Fremantle clash has kept him on the sidelines for the past two weeks. Jason Winderlich is also likely to feature in the Essendon squad after being rested on the weekend.

The ANZAC day match is a substantial game considering the fixture’s history and the current standings for the two teams. Round 19 last season was the last time these teams met, Collingwood took the spoils on that occasion with a crushing 79-point triumph. The betting market clearly favours Collingwood but the Bombers are in with a great chance. Expect an even, tight and emotional affair in front of a packed crowd at the MCG.
