Building towards the World Cup, Australia  has a handful of new faces for its friendly against Ecuador  at The New Den in London on March 6. Socceroos coach Ange Postecoglou has followed through on his promise to experiment with rising talent. Four players - Dundee United’s Curtis Good, Fortuna Dusseldorf’s Ben Halloran, Aston Villa’s Chris Herd and Swindon’s Massimo Luongo are all set to wear the green and gold for the first time at senior level.

While captain Lucas Neill and key mid-fielder Mark Bresciano have been omitted, Dinamo Moscow’s Luke Wilkshire, Liverpool’s Brad Jones, FC Utrecht’s Adam Sarota and Western Sydney’s Matthew Spiranovic all have one last chance to impress. While ex-Millwall attacker Tim Cahill is expected to lead the line at his old home ground, experienced international forwards Josh Kennedy, Brett Holman, Alex Brosque and Nikita Rukavytsya all missed selection. Mile Jedinak has taken over the captaincy from Neill.

More than half of the players in the 23-man squad have single-digit international appearances and Postecoglou believes this outfit represents the first steps towards the building of the next golden generation for Australian football. Melbourne Victory’s Tom Rogic has been included, despite suffering a recent ankle injury in the A-League. This is the Socceroos last hit-out before the preliminary squad for the World Cup is announced in May and there is still opportunity for hopefuls to push their claims for the trip to Rio.

The Socceroos squad is: Oliver Bozanic, Tim Cahill, Jason Davidson, Ivan Franjic, Curtis Good, Ben Halloran, Chris Herd, James Holland, Mile Jedinak, Brad Jones, Mitchell Langerak, Matthew Leckie, Massimo Luongo, Ryan McGowan, Matthew McKay, Mark Milligan, Tommy Oar, Tommy Rogic, Matt Ryan, Adam Sarota, Matthew Spiranovic, Dario Vidosic, Luke Wilkshire
