The New England Patriots travel to California on Monday (AEST) to face the San Diego Chargers , who have begun building momentum at the right time of the season.

New England’s seven-game winning streak came to an end at the hands of the NFC North leaders, the Green Bay Packers , last Monday. The AFC East Division leaders were uncharacteristically quiet when it came to offence. They totalled just 54 plays for the game, almost 20 less than they have averaged in the last two months.  MVP contender Tom Brady continued to pressure the Packers' defence as best he could, passing for 245 yards and two touchdowns. The once Super Bowl favourites have fallen behind in the last week, now running third to both Green Bay and Denver .

The Chargers are so close to the playoffs they can almost taste it.  The once AFC West giants can make it to their first finals campaign in five years if they can win at least two of their remaining four games. However considering they play the Patriots, the AFC West leaders, the Denver Broncos and the in form San Francisco 49ers, it's a big ask. Quarterback Philip Rivers is having another standout season, and his position in the MVP market mirrors that. At the start of the season, Rivers was $81 to take out the trophy, but after throwing 3218 yards and 25 TD’s, he's now sixth favourite with TattsBet.

These two teams have faced off five times since 2007, including the Pats beating the Chargers to progress to Super Bowl XLII. Brady’s partnership with tight end Rob Gronkowski has been a talking point all season, and punters are sure to favour the New York native for the first TD .
