After an earlier victory on Cullens Jewel in Race 2, leading Queensland reinsman Pete McMullen created a piece of harness history when he steered home Ezi Days in Race 8 at Albion Park today.

The double with two races still to go at the Creek saw him become the youngest Aussie driver to register 1000 career victories.

The record previously belonged to Amanda Turnbull, who set the mark in June this year when she notched her first 'k' at the age of 24 years and 4 months. McMullen is a year younger than his NSW counterpart.

2014 has been huge for McMullen. In October, he claimed the inaugural Australian Drivers' Championship at Globe Derby in Adelaide, he's the travelling reserve for the World Drivers' Championship in NSW and during the Brisbane Winter Carnival he was in the gig on recently retired champion I'm Themightyquinn.

Off the track, 'Pistol Pete' married his long-time partner Chantal Turpin a couple of months ago.

The third generation horseman is in the gig chasing his second 'thousand' winners!
