Two sides residing in the top four of the EPL clash on Boxing Day (AEST) as Chelsea host West Ham at Stamford Bridge.

Chelsea cruised to victory against Stoke on Tuesday morning, with Cesc Fabregas returning from suspension to steer the Blues to a 2-0 win. The three points ensured they spend Christmas on top of the table and one win above current champions Manchester City. It’s a good omen for Jose Mourinho’s men; every time Chelsea have led the EPL at Christmas, they’ve gone on to take out the title (04/05, 05/06, 09/10). After booting nine goals in the opening seven rounds, star striker Diego Costa has dropped off. The Spanish striker has scored just three goals in Chelsea’s past 10 matches, but he’ll be on the hunt to add to his 12 goals season.

Like their opponents, West Ham also profited from a 2-0 win on the weekend, with goals from Stewart Downing and Andy Carrol sinking Leicester. The three points gained lifted them back into the top four, the highest Sam Allardyce’s men have been in quite some time. Consistency has been key for the Hammers this season, however they face their toughest test of their campaign thus far on Friday. The record books show West Ham have struggled against the Blues in the last decade or so, managing just one win in 17 competitive matches.

Chelsea dominate the betting market, but West Ham are a real dark horse this season. The Hammers have already knocked off some of England’s biggest clubs, including Liverpool and Manchester City, and the Blues won’t want their name added to that list.
