The Big Bash returns for another summer on Thursday night as the Strikers host the Stars in Adelaide.

Despite falling short in the past three Big Bash Leagues, bookies are giving Melbourne Stars a massive chance to claim their first title. After recruiting well to the lead up of the competition, the Stars boast a star-studded that include some of the best T20 players from Australia and abroad. Hard-hitters David Hussey, Glen Maxwell and Cameron White prepare for their fourth Big Bash, while offseason recruit Kevin Pietersen marks his competition debut in Adelaide. The Englishman is known for his dominance with the bat, and he’s to register the most runs for the visitors.

Adelaide will field a similar team to the outfit that competed in last year’s competition, however there’s one noticeable absentee. Phillip Hughes would have been one of the Strikers’ leading batsman, however he was tragically killed in late November after a horrific Sheffield Shield incident. Not only has that left his teammates with heavy hearts, it’s also left a gap at the top of the batting order. That is something coach Darren Berry will have on his mind, but with Brad Hodge and Craig Simmons lining up for the South Australians, the Strikers are capable of accumulating a healthy score.

Melbourne, the competition favourites, are dominant in the betting ring, however Adelaide have had their admirers. The Strikers won just once at home last season, but history shows a lot of Big Bash upsets are produced in the opening rounds.
