Everton welcome QPR to Goodison Park on Tuesday (AEST) looking to get their season back on track after a string of poor performances.

After ending the 2013-14 season in fifth spot and qualifying for the Europa League, expectation from Toffees fans had never been higher. However, with just four wins out of their opening 15 games, the Merseysiders look a completely different outfit this time around. Scoring goals hasn’t been a problem for the Evertonians this season, but it’s at the other end where their true problems lie. Roberto Martinez’s men have already leaked 23 goals this season, and on only three occasions have they kept a clean sheet.

After gaining promotion into the 2014-15 season, QPR knew it would be hard to maintain their top flight status. After a rough opening three months, the Londoners looked favourites to end up with the wooden spoon, but a slight spike in form recently has seen them climb just about out of the relegation zone. Charlie Austin has been crucial for the Hoops in front of goal this season, bagging eight goals in 14 matches. The 25-year-old found the net last time out in QPR’s 2-0 win over Burnley, although he misses this clash through suspension.

With just one win in their past six matches, Everton are desperate for the three points. Both sides have shown this season they certainly know how to score and concede, making the over 2.5 goals option a tempting choice.
