Another chapter in England’s greatest rivalry will be written when Manchester United host Liverpool on Sunday night (AEST).

After a slow start to the season and an off-season team overhaul, United fans were searching for answers. Louis Van Gaal warned not to stress, and the Dutch manager has produced a master class from the sidelines. The Red Devils have won their past five consecutive matches, a feat no other team has achieved this season. Angel Di Maria has missed the past two matches with a hamstring injury, however he’s a chance of returning this weekend. The speedy Argentine has scored three and set up six already this season, and he’ll be out to add to that tally.

Liverpool’s domestic pain turned to continental anguish midweek as they were dumped out of the Champions League by Swiss outfit Basel. Despite heroics from Steven Gerrard to salvage a 1-1 draw, it wasn’t enough for them to progress form Group B. Brendan Rogers will hope Mario Balotelli has recovered from a groin injury in time to make the trip to Old Trafford, but it may be up to Rickie Lambert and Fabio Borini to penetrate United’s defence.

With United in red-hot form and playing at home, they enter the match as firm favourites. However the last time Liverpool travelled to Old Trafford, they came away with the three points after a dominant 3-0 win.
