With just four wins out of their opening 12 matches, Arsenal must knock off West Brom on Saturday night (AEST) to keep their title aspirations alive.

It’s been a season marred with draws for Arsenal. With five matches ending all square, only Sunderland have recorded more draws than the North Londoners this season. The Gunners were condemned to a 2-1 home defeat last time out at the hands Manchester United, increasing the volume of calls to axe long-time manager Arsene Wegner. It’s the worst start to a season Arsenal have experienced for 32 years, however there is one promising dynamic – the return of Olivier Giroud. The Frenchman netted on his return from injury last weekend and scored the winner last time these two sides met, and the striker is  in the first goal scorer market.

Despite beginning the season well, the Baggies have dropped off in the past couple of months and are beginning to be dragged into the relegation dogfight. Currently occupying 13th on the ladder, West Brom sit just three points above the bottom trio, and a loss on Saturday could see them plummet to second from bottom. Coach Alan Irvine knows his side’s supporters are getting restless, with West Brom producing just one win in front of their home fans this campaign. The Baggies, however, have the luxury of fielding a squad close to full strength, with the exception of Claudio Yacob who was sent off in their 2-0 loss to Chelsea last weekend.

Arsenal head into this clash as firm favourites and nothing less than a win will do for Arsene Wegner. The Gunners should have a spring in their step after winning in Europe midweek, and although some key players remain on the sidelines, they should possess too much firepower for the West Midlands side to handle.
