Manchester City can ill-afford to lose when German champions Bayern Munich come to town in a crucial UCL tie.

With just two draws out of four matches in the Champions League, Manchester City remain rooted at the bottom of Group E and find themselves on the brink of elimination. A loss to Bayern Munich on Wednesday morning (AEST) would mathematically end their chances of qualification into the Round of 16, something that wouldn’t go down too well with Sky Blue fans. Managing a win against Bayern may prove too bigger a task, especially if they’re without in-form striker Sergio Aguero. The Argentinian is the EPL’s top scorer with 12 goals in 11 matches, however he missed City’s final training session before the clash, casting doubt over his fitness.

After falling to Real Madrid in last season’s Champions League semi-finals, it’s obvious Bayern are out to go all the way this campaign. The 2012 European champions remain undefeated in all competitions this season, a record they will hope to continue against the English giants. Arjen Robben led the scoring for Bayern in their 4-0 win over Hoffenheim on the weekend, and the Dutch winger is enjoying a good run of form for the Bavarians. It was the 30-year-old’s seventh goal in all competitions this season, and he’ll be eager to add to that tally on Wednesday.

When these two sides met in mid-September this year, Pep Guardiola’s men required a late strike to seal a low-scoring 1-0 victory. However with City requiring all three points and the Germans possessing the firepower to post big scores on the counter, there’s reason for punters to expect this match to produce over 2.5 goals .
