Mariners Fancied To Fight Off Sharks

Central Coast make the trip to Queensland for the second time in the competition to tackle Palm Beach in the FFA Cup Quarter-Finals.

The Mariners head into Tuesday night’s do-or-die clash with a spring in their step following a 1-0 derby win over the Jets. Mitchell Duke netted in stoppage-time to seal an opening day win, however it’s another striker in Glen Trifiro that has done the damage for the Mariners in the FFA Cup this year. Trifiro, a former Sydney United player, is one of only a handful of players that has scored in both fixtures in the competition thus far, and he’ll be ready to pounce again come Tuesday night.

Palm Beach completed a league and championship double in the Queensland NPL this year, and they remain the only side from the sunshine state left in the inaugural FFA Cup. The Sharks booked a spot in the Quarter-Finals following narrow wins over Hakoah Sydney City East and South Springvale. Palm Beach’s strength in defence is what led them to a maiden NPL championship this year, and they have the experience of former Adelaide United hard man Kristian Rees, who knows what it takes to defend against top A-league strikers.

The Mariners are firm favourites to send Palm Beach crashing out of the competition, and deservedly so. Phil Moss’ side will be on a high after the weekend's big win, however the Sharks may prove to be a tricky team to crack.
