Gold Coast Racing Preview - January 11

Magic Millions 3YO Guineas (QR5)

What better way to kickoff the Quaddie on Magic Millions day than with the 3YO Guineas. Enquare is the form runner heading into this contest recording three straight wins this preparation including the Listed Mode Plate and Group 3 Vo Rogue Plate. Magic Millions day has been a happy hunting ground for Jason McLachlan after he won the race with Saluter last year. The Gai Waterhouse-trained filly Sweet Idea didn’t receive any favours drawing barrier 15 and looks likely to lead following an all the way win in the 3YO Wyong Magic Millions last month. Into The Red was enormous last weekend finishing second off a hot tempo after being trapped five wide on the tight Gold Coast track. He drops down in weight and will have the shortest trip home drawing barrier one with Chris Munce in the saddle.

Selections: Into The Red, Enquare, Sweet Idea, Splendora

Magic Millions 2YO Classic (QR6) - **$150,000 FIRST FOUR jackpot**

Fillies boast an envious record in the Magic Millions 2YO Classic making up the trifecta the past three editions and winning all races since 2010. Unencumbered, a colt, will go around favourite in this renewal following impressive wins in the BJ McLachlan and Wyong Magic Millions. The son of Testa Rossa hasn’t put a foot wrong this preparation for Sydney trainer Bjorn Baker and has drawn ideally in barrier three. Oakleigh Girl didn’t get any favours in the BJ McLachlan when she worked hard early to lead and can improve if ridden patiently from barrier six with early speed. In the past 22 runnings there have been only five winners from double figure barriers so an inside draw is crucial with plenty of speed up front. Invisible has only been seen on one occasion for the Hawkes stable yet is second in the line of betting after an impressive debut win.

Selections: Oakleigh Girl, Stroak, Unencumbered, Invisible

Magic Millions Cup (QR7)

General Exhibit moves to 1400m for Helen Page after flying home to win at Doomben in open company before Christmas. He faces a tough step-up in class this occasion against noted Listed and Group performers and will need to be peaking to record a win here. Club Command comes off the back of two impressive trial wins and looks great value at around the $9-mark. He has won two from three first up and finished second on the other occasion. The White Hope is beginning to build a solid resume and can feature heavily from barrier two carrying 54.5kgs. Velrosso travels north for Chris Waller and will start favourite from barrier seven.

Selections: Club Command, Velrosso, Doubtfilly, Lucky Hussler

Magic Millions Class 6 Plate (QR8)

Gundy Spirit was unlucky to miss out on a start in the 3YO Guineas after finishing a close second behind Enquare and Missy Longstocking in the Group 3 Vo Rogue Plate at Doomben. He looks set to explode from barrier five with Ryan Wiggins on board and is a deserving short-price favourite. Target In Sight has been sent north for Sydney trainer John O’Shea following two impressive wins this preparation. The lightly-raced gelding was dominant with 59kg last start and drops to 56kg in this contest. Based on recent performances it’s hard to look outside the two favourites.

Selections: Gundy Spirit, Target In Sight, Commandare, Pure Whipser
