Sydney raider Rebel Dane  will be bidding for his first Group One success when he tackles a strong field in the Sir Rupert Clarke Stakes at Caulfield on Sunday. Although Gary Portelli’s galloper is yet to win at the top level, he was only a nose behind multiple Group One winner Pierro over this trip at set weights during Sydney’s autumn carnival. He will be bidding to become the fourth consecutive four year-old to win the race and has another key stat on his side for this event, having run in the Bobbie Lewis Quality at Flemington last time out. Four of the past six horses that won the Sir Rupert Clarke Stakes contested that event and Rebel Dane was fourth in it last time out. Speediness  (1st), Temple Of Boom  (2nd) and Fontelina  (9th) are the other Bobbie Lewis runners backing up in this race.

Linton  heads the weights with 58kg after coming from last to win the Stradbroke Handicap at Eagle Farm in June but the history books tell us that carrying a big weight makes it difficult to win this contest. Toorak Toff is the only galloper to win with more than 55.5kg on his back since Testa Rossa lumped 58.5kg to victory in 2000 and December Draw , Solzhenitsyn , Luckygray , Ferlax , Budriguez  and Temple Of Boom will all be out to buck that trend on Sunday.

Champion trainer Peter Moody won the race with Moment Of Change last year and saddles up French import Lidari , Thy  and Strawberry Boy  in this year’s renewal, with stable jockey Luke Nolen taking the mount on the latter. Pago Rock , Yosei  and Mutual Trust  have all drawn poorly for the 1400m event, while Bonaria  and Dany The Fox  complete the field.
