Tottenham Hotspur  can jump to the top of the table, at least temporarily, by beating Chelsea  in the English Premier League’s early kickoff on Saturday night (AEST). Andre Villas-Boas has guided his side to four wins from five League fixtures during the current campaign, with the only blemish on his record a 1-0 derby defeat to Arsenal. Chelsea has made a strong start to the season as well and would take top spot itself with a win.

Danny Rose is expected to return from a toe injury that has ruled him out of Spurs past two matches and his inclusion won’t be the only change to the squad that hammered Aston Villa 4-0  in the League Cup during the week, with several players rested for that match. Joint top scorers Roberto Soldado and Gylfi Sigurdsson are expected to feature from the start, while club captain Michael Dawson will also return after being a late substitute at Villa Park.

Like Spurs, Chelsea made a host of changes for its League Cup fixture during the week, which a ‘second-string’ side beating League One rivals Swindon 2-0 . Eden Hazard and Oscar are likely to return in attack for Jose Mourinho, who made ten changes for his side’s midweek match, but Ramires and Marco van Ginkel will both miss out after picking up injuries at the County Ground.

Chelsea’s 2-0 victory over Fulham last Saturday saw the club rebound from its worst start to a league campaign in more than a decade but the Blues have still scored more goals than Tottenham in the current campaign. Spurs have just five Premier League goals from as many matches this season and have built their success on determined defensive efforts, with three of the clubs four victories coming via a 1-0  scoreline. In fact, they have the best defensive record in any of the ‘big five’ leagues in Europe this season, conceding just one goal to date.

Tottenham and Chelsea played out a draw  when they met at Stamford Bridge last season but the Blues scored a 4-2  victory at this ground earlier in the campaign for their first success at White Hart Lane since 2005.
