Manchester City  will have a point to prove when it hosts Hull City  at Etihad Stadium on Saturday night (AEST), having suffered a shock 3-2 defeat to Cardiff in the League last weekend. After beginning the new campaign with a dominant 4-0  victory over Newcastle on the opening weekend of the season, Manual Pellegrini suffered his first defeat in charge of the club at the hands of the newly promoted club in Wales.

Inspirational skipper Vincent Kompany will again miss out for the Citizens after picking up a groin strain against Newcastle, while Stevan Jovetic and Micah Richards will have to prove their fitness. Off season signing Alvaro Negredo  scored his first goal for the club after coming off the bench to get on the scoresheet against Cardiff and could be in contention to start.

Hull City got its first win of the campaign with a 1-0 victory over Norwich in the League last weekend and following that success by beating Leyton Orient by the same margin in the League Cup during the week. Yannick Sagbo is unavailable for the Tigers after being sent off against the Canaries, but England internationals Tom Huddlestone and Jake Livermore are likely to team up in the midfield again after being rested during the week.

The Tigers have a surprisingly good record against Manchester City in the Premier League, with a win and two draws  from the four top flight meetings between the clubs. The two matches at Etihad Stadium resulted in a 5-1  home win on Boxing Day 2008 before the sides played out a 1-1  draw eleven months later.
