Stradbroke Handicap Day Preview

**TattsBet $200,000 Quadrella Jackpot (BR6, BR7, BR8 & BR9)**

J.J Atkins (BR6) – Ten of the past eight winners of this event (formerly known as the T.J Smith) had their last start in the Sires Produce Stakes, so that race looks the best place to find the winner of this contest. Zoustar was strong enough at the finish there to beat stablemate Vilanova, although he may not be suited by the step up to a mile as much as the horse he beat that day. One horse certain to appreciate the extra distance is Darley galloper Paximadia, who was a little unlucky in the Sires Produce and will wear blinkers for the first time. Romantic Touch won by 7.5 lengths over 1550m last time out at Canterbury and warrants respect.
Selections: Vilanova, Paximadia, Romantic Touch, Zoustar

Queensland Derby (BR7) – Hawkspur has done nothing wrong since coming to Queensland, scoring dominant wins in both the Rough Habit Plate and Grand Prix Stakes and there is no reason why he can’t win again. He is well drawn and will be hard to catch with Jim Cassidy aboard. Rhythm To Spare chased him home last time out and should take huge improvement from that, while his stablemate Ali Vital will relish the step up to 2400m. He has won his past two starts impressively and will be even better suited on rain affected going. Favourite Survived has impressive staying form in New Zealand but has been up for a long time, while Queensland Oaks winner Gondokoro will be out to improve on the impressive recent record of fillies in the race.
Selections: Hawkspur, Ali Vital, Gondokoro, Rhythm To Spare

Stradbroke Handicap (BR8) **TattsBet $300,000 First Four Jackpot** - A cracking field has been assembled for Queensland’s biggest race, with several promising youngsters taking on some of the best older horses in the land. Local champion Buffering was runner-up with 58kg twelve months ago and has the same impost this time around but is drawn much better in gate six. He will race on the speed and be hard to run down. Kelso Wood has three runners in the race and two of them are leading chances in Sizzling and Belltone. The former has a great record at Eagle Farm and was a dominant winner of the Queensland Guineas last week, while the latter scored a good victory in the BRC Sprint, is well drawn and down in the weights. BTC Cup winner Your Song was never a chance in the Doomben 10,000 last time out after drawing a wide barrier but will get a much better run from a middle gate and meets several of his rivals from that event better at the weights.
Selections: Your Song, Belltone, Buffering, Sizzling

Brisbane Cup (BR9) – Precedence was a strong winner of the Premier’s Cup at Doomben two weeks ago and a repeat of the performance would see him go very close here. He has performed admirably in much better races during the past two Spring Carnival’s and the big weight isn’t a huge problem. Quintessential is two from two since coming across from New Zealand and she has won the Oaks here over this trip last year. Lightinthenite is untested over this trip but has run well enough in WFA contests this preparation to suggest that he will be competitive if he can run 2400m. Margins was unlucky last time out and can finish closer with any luck in running.
Selections: Precedence, Quintessential, Margins, Lightinthenite
