Ed Dunlop’s globetrotting star Red Cadeaux will line up in the Group One Prince of Wales’s Stakes at Royal Ascot on Wednesday night (AEST), looking for his second success at the top level. Although best known for finishing second in the Melbourne Cup over 3200m in 2011, the seven year-old proved that he could also match it with the best horses over 2000m by finishing second to Animal Kingdom in the world’s richest race, the Dubai World Cup earlier this year.

The horse to beat in the horse is undoubtedly Al Kazeem, who has won both starts this season and scored a strong victory over Camelot in the Tattersalls Gold Cup at the Curragh last time out. Ballydoyle star Camelot won both the 2000 Guineas and Epsom Derby last season before having his bid for the Triple Crown scuppered when second to Encke in the St Leger at Doncaster.

Al Kazeem and Camelot were two of 20 horses invited by the Moonee Valley Racing Club to contest the Cox Plate later this year, as were French star Maxios, Side Glance (who is owned in the same interests as Dunaden) and The Fugue, who also line up in this event. Luca Cumani saddles up Afsare, who was brought to Australia to contest the Plate in 2012 but suffered an injury that prevented him from lining up.
