Queensland Oaks Day Racing Preview

Queensland Guineas (BR6) – Many of these gallopers met in the Fred Best Classic at Doomben a fortnight ago when Platinum Kingdom came out on top, but this is likely to be very different. Sizzling was 6th in that race but is a much better horse at the bigger track and will relishes the slow surface here. He has four wins and a second from five starts at Eagle Farm and is two from two on heavy going. Darley are well represented with Academus and Complicate here, with the pair having run 2nd and 4th respectively two weeks ago. Although stable jockey Kerrin McEvoy has taken the mount on Academus, Complicate should improve greatly from a good draw after working hard to get to the front at Doomben from a wide gate last time out and he loses nothing with Damian Browne on his back. Platinum Kingdom was too good for these last time out and will be in the finish again, while Boban had no luck behind him at Doomben and warrants respect.
Selections: Sizzling, Complicate, Platinum Kingdom, Academus

Queensland Oaks (BR7) **TattsBet $122,609 Trifecta Jackpot** - Dear Demi is clearly the one to beat in this contest, having proven her staying prowess by taking out the VRC Oaks and finishing 2nd in the Sydney equivalent earlier this year. Although she has had an unusual preparation going into this, she won at Flemington in November off a three day backup and will be in the finish. Gondokoro was arguably unlucky not to beat Dear Demi in her last start in the Roses when she had no luck but was powering home at the finish. She is another proven at the trip who will run well. Soapy Star missed the start badly but was doing her best work late in The Roses and will be tough to beat here. She has the services of gun hoop Hugh Bowman and is drawn much better for this race. Miss Zenella was an impressive winner at Sale last time out and could be the knockout hope, while late nomination Just As Cosmic isn’t without a chance.
Selections: Soapy Star, Dear Demi, Gondokoro, Just As Cosmic

QTC Cup (BR8) – This race represents the last chance for several of these to earn a start in the Stradbroke Handicap a week later, but a horse already assured of a run there looks the most likely winner of this contest. Hot Snitzel may be enigmatic but he is very good at his best and gets conditions to suit here. He won a similar event to this two starts back and has good form on wet tracks. Celtic Dancer won this race on a bog track last season and will get similar conditions this race. The fact that he has three wins from four starts on heavy going means that he must be considered. Mahisara has been racing well and has finally drawn a good barrier, while Decision Time can also be competitive despite having to jump from a wide gate.
Selections: Hot Snitzel, Celtic Dancer, Decision Time, Mahisara
